See What Countries are telling its Citizens to Not Smoke Weed, While Visiting Canada
Even though marijuana has been made legal in Canada, countries are asking their citizens not to partake in marijuana while visiting legal countries. On one hand I do understand trying to keep your citizens safe, but at the same time if you’re on vacation and in a country that has legal marijuana what’s the harm. A few places that has warned their citizens are Japan, South Korea and China. All of these places have made marijuana illegal. These countries see marijuana as a drug that has no medical benefits whatsoever.
China is saying no to all forms of weed, for its citizens traveling to legal places
A Chinese Consulate General in Toronto published a letter saying he suggest that all Chinese citizens and international students avoid marijuana at all cost. In order to protect their physical and mental health. I don’t think any country should be able to tell its population, what they can do on vacation. The whole point of a vacation is to relax and enjoy your stay, and if that includes smoking a blunt or two so be it. The letter also stated that any Chinese citizens living in Canada who break cannabis laws by selling to a minor will face deportation.
Japan Statement on Marijuana
Japan has also released a statement for its international residence. If any Japanese citizen is caught anywhere in the world, breaking marijuana laws could face penalties upon returning to Japan. I think that policies and practices like this will only make people not want to ever return. With japan struggling breath rate, I don’t think they can actually afford to have their citizens not want to ever return. This will only serve to negatively affect growth. Japan has always seen marijuana as something bad and dangerous. If you’re caught importing or exporting cannabis you could face up to seven to ten years in jail.
Korea Anti Weed Practices
South Korea went on twitter to let their citizen know the consequences of using marijuana while traveling. This is their official tweet, “South Korean individuals who use marijuana (including purchase, possession and transport) — even in regions where such acts are legal — are violating [South Korean] law,” the embassy said.
Should citizens that are from places where marijuana is illegal, be subjected to punishments for using marijuana in legal places and countries?
